    2025-2026 New Student Housing Application
  • The West Virginia State University Office of Housing and Residence Life is committed to fostering inclusive, safe, and vibrant living communities for our Residential Yellow Jackets. Our Department’s vision includes not just maintaining our standards of excellence but elevating them, ensuring that our residence halls are more than just places to live—they are places where lifelong memories are made, and meaningful relationships are forged. There are numerous educational and social benefits for first-year students living in the residence halls that may not be realized by those living off campus. With this understanding, WVSU requires all first-year students to live on campus.

  • Campus Self Defense Act (§18B-4-5b)

Effective July 1, 2024, the Campus Self Defense Act (§18B-4-5b) takes effect.

The law allows for individuals with valid and current concealed handgun licenses to carry firearms on campus. The law permits WVSU BOG the authority to restrict the carrying of firearms in certain situations on campus such as in residential halls/dorms. WVSU has designated the central storage area for firearms as Sullivan Hall and students choosing to exercise this law will reside in Sullivan Hall and be charged a fee for storage.

  • You are welcome to submit a housing application even if you have not yet registered for Fall 2025 classes or paid the $200 non-refundable housing reservation fee. However, both must be completed before you can receive a housing assignment.

Housing applications opened early to give new students time to complete these steps before New Student Orientation, where Fall 2025 classes and housing assignments will be distributed.

  • New students must accurately complete this section by ranking their housing preferences in order of priority, from first choice to last. Please note that while housing preferences will be considered, they are not guaranteed.

It is essential to complete this section carefully, as it helps determine placement in campus housing. As a reminder, new students will receive their official housing assignments during New Student Orientation. Please monitor your student email for updates and additional housing information.

  • Roommate Preference

If you have a preferred roommate, you must provide their A# on your application, and they must also list you as their roommate preference on their own application. To increase the likelihood of your preferences being considered, both students must submit a 2025-2026 New Student Housing Application, pay the $200 non-refundable room reservation fee, and be enrolled in Fall 2025 classes by your selected New Student Orientation.

  • By signing below, I am communicating my intent to reside on campus for the 2025-2026 academic year.
